Creative Labs Modem Blaster |
Wow, what a product, small, smart, sits perfect on your desk and so simple to install and at a great price! When we purchased our PC it came with an internal modem, and we hooked up to the internet after a few months. Later in the year I read in a magazine how internal modems use more power from your hard drive, therefore shortening its (HDD) life-span. We got hit by a virus and the HDD couldnt take it and had to be sent away (along with the tower) for repairs. When it came back we decided it best to invest in an external modem, when we saw this modem, with excellent reviews on Amazon and in several PC magazines. We placed an order and received within a day. With its easy to install package L.E.D.s to let you know exactly what is going on (or not), we knew wed made an excellent purchase. So if youve read this far and are still hesitant about buying then you needent bother, if on the other hand you feel as confident as we do with this product, you will have clicked that buy now button and will be sat waiting for it to arrive in the mail!!

Creative Labs Modem Blaster !!Dont forget its your money ! |
|
I bought this modem as a replacement of a PCI, I decided on the USB from Creative because of the reviews and the Creative quality products. But it really slows down my Windows (XP Pro).Connectivity decreased to 33.2 Kbps, from a 48K. Too late to take it back to Amazon, I am on the look for a new Modem ;-( My recommendations try it, but if it gives you problems change it, don’t leave for too late, it’s your money!!!

Severe installation problems with Windows 2000 |
|
I bought this modem 2 weeks ago and despite about a dozen attempts to install it, have been unable to make it work under windows 2000 pro, which is a real surprise as this should be easy. Plug and play does see it at first and attempts to install the drivers but the first 8 or 9 times that they installed, they clearly didnt install correctly as although Device Manager listed the modem as being there, any attempt to query it resulted in an instant black screen and a reboot of the PC. Eventually after much muffled swearing and at least 2 re-service-pack installations (it needs a minimum of SP3 by the way) I managed to get this modem to finally install and on the right COM port too. Itll dial out as well, but then I find that it randomly causes my PC to reboot when in use - it can happen at any time without warning and gives you no entries in the event viewer to help out either - the longest its stayed online for so far is 10 minutes which is no use to man nor beast. Ive heard that it works fine under XP but under 2000 its pants - I wouldnt recommend it to my worst enemy. I must say that the creative labs tech support guys have tried to be helpful, but they havent come up with anything that I havent already tried, including installing it on a second PC, so this one is on its way back for a refund, Mr Amazon. Can you make sure you put a public health warning on it while you at it? Ta very much.
